Kings Owner Arrested for DUI

Buzzed driving is an art. Judging from this story ( http://dlvr.it/6vz1z ), George Maloof is no Picasso.

Maloof was arrested for driving under the influence in Las Vegas late Saturday night. Adding insult to intoxication, he was stopped by the arresting officer in his own driveway, or as us buzzed driving professionals refer to it, the finish line.

Maloof says that he wasn't "that drunk", and his B.A.C. test kind of backs that up. The legal limit is 0.08, and he tested at 0.086, pretty tame by Vegas standards. He claims he was returning home after a friend's wedding. He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of driving under the influence, speeding 20 mph over the limit, making an illegal turn, and driving without a valid license or proof of insurance.

We've all been there.

Color me shocked. I always figured the Maloofs were able to handle their liquor at least well enough to successfully "buzz drive" themselves home from a party in their own city. Watch any Kings game, and your sure to catch any of the brothers, or one sister, a little red-faced and glazed. I never would have expected one of them to get all "Lohan-ish" only 0.06 above the limit.

I'm not going to come down on him too tough. Most of us have been in similar situations, some of us on that very same Saturday night. Its a calculated risk, with heavy consequences, but that hardly stops us from doing it. Being busted for buzzed driving is shameful in the same way public masturbation is: no big deal so long as you don't hit anybody.

(Had to go there, didn't you?)
